Support the Timber Trail

The Timber Trail is a Partnership

Our Great Ride happens with a range of community support.  The Department of Conservation manages the land and maintains the trail, private landowners who grant easements, our iwi partners who guide us, Ruapehu District Council and Nga Haerenga Great Rides, and our trail operators and local communities -and of course you!

Thank you for making a difference!

How can you make a difference?

  • Report a Hazard or Maintenance issue: Did you come across a tree across the track or something you think you needs fixing - then help your fellow cyclists and us by reporting this online.  The team at DOC will get onto that right away.  (After all we can't be everywhere at once but we do want everyone to have a safe and enjoyable ride)

  • Complete the trail survey.  Your feedback helps all stakeholders know what is working and what we need to improve on (and helps us continue to advocate for development and maintenance funding for the trail.  We need to achieve a target of 500 per annum - from cyclists and walkers!  All completed surveys go in the draw to win monthly prizes too!  Alternatively contact us direct.

  • Donate (time or cash) The Friends of the Timber Trail are a group of community volunteers that support the trail by providing the extras (seats, shelters, and more) so that our ride is extra special.  Recent projects include new shelters on the trail, toilets and a shelter at Bennett Rd carpark, picnic tables and more!

  • Letting us know if you have had an oops on trail ensures that we can take care of any systemic hazards, improve our communication, and support on the trail.  If you let us know, then it might prevent the same thing happening to someone else.
